Night time

Nighttime means
I am alone
When you are not here

The night before
Night fell
I was with you

You were here
Holding me through
The summer night

The night has fallen
You have left
Me alone tonight

Another night
You will return
I will not be alone

Thunderstorm named Anxiety

The weather man isn't always perfectly right
Same as the psychologist who works on sight
However the storm rolls in the same exact way
With the same emotions and damage, but doesn't stay

It always begins with a light cool rain
That washes away some of the pent up pain
Suffocating heat swells to the neck and chest
It'll allow the consumed to dream but never rest

Thunder rolls in with the intensity of a raised voice
Forcing all to seek shelter as if we had a choice
Lightning thrashes across the sky and anxieties eye
Allowing only a few words to be uttered, and a cry

As quickly as the storm came it leaves all in its wake
Breathing becomes lower and the pain becomes an ache
The storm has passed for now at the very least
It has become for now a satisfied and quiet beast

Anxiety and thunderstorms go hand in hand
Wrecking havoc on the peace across the land

As much as...

As much as the morning grass loves the dew,
Skies open the clouds to show the blue,
The trees allow branches swaying in the wind,

As much as the rain loves to pour to soothe the shore,
The mountain tops love to stand so proud,
Sun shining down her love to the land,

As much as the stars love to light up the heavens,
Sharing the night sky with the moon above,
Showing all the way home safely,

As much as the water loves to go over the falls,
Bringing life to the other parts of the forest,
Giving life to all that partake in its love,

With the sparrow singing calls to her fledglings home,
And as much as you love me,
I love you too.

Social Studies and Morals

Today in our social studies class dear children, we will learn about what is inside
What guides our leaders, in integrity and how they may have lied
Courage is present in all of our stories from the dawn of time
As is perseverance; think of how our distant relatives struggled to save a dime
Even today you will hear lovely stories of compassion and grace
And how respect is earned and lost in our human race

I ask you today if you can think in the news of a story that we can study
Think hard now then – look ahead, the definition may be muddy
I believe you can find a story that can help us act like leaders with morals!
Once you have the answer – shout it out! Wait! Don’t start quarrels!
Consider a story with courage like the lion, dogs that have honesty
Persistence like a bird building a nest, and show compassion modestly

All animals (as should humans) show respect to one another
From country to country we should act like we are brothers
Though throughout our history we have seen more war
Over any little thing, from beautiful women to winning a shore
Consider before you choose a perfect story, the other man’s side
As if you’re walking in his shoes, or in this day and age, his ride

Can you understand how his day may go – or what can affect his choice?
How does he handle his day when he may not even have a voice?
After you consider what may go on in his world or in his mind
Think about what you have offered in your life – share what you find
Please share with me the compassion you now feel for that other man
And how you can honestly help – who else is involved in your plan?

Now tell me student, in your story does it show courage?

Is there a way to show the world compassion, a way to encourage?
I hope you chose a story that proved there is integrity in most good men
Prove to me it also shows perseverance – a sword verses a winning pen
I know this lesson was difficult, but with it, you’ll find respect for all
You graduate now knowing moral character – use it so you don’t fall

Radio

Once upon a time I was able to turn on the radio
And listen without a memory crossing the lane
Not the ones where friends circled around a fire
Reminiscing on high school and quieter times

Songs will play, slowly filling me with memories
Pushing tears, expecting them to show eventually
Questioning why I do not sing along
Even quietly, even though I know the words

There are times when I'll even change the station
On the days when the lyrics are just too much
Too many memories flooding into my heart
Allowing the threatening tears to push more

How can I listen to the radio knowing this
And allow the memories to rule everything
Is there a way that I can just move on?
Or will the next song change it all again?

Time will tell when I can listen with no worries
For now I'll believe, the radio plays what I need to hear

Peek a Boo

Have you ever played a game of peek a boo with a child?
One moment you are there in their loving trusting eyes
The next you are gone, hidden behind caring, loving hands
Reappearing once again to play the short, charming game

Did you ever lose that inner child, the one that you called wild?
Reasons were because you listened to the arguments and lies
You hid behind books and headphones playing unheard of bands
Fearing that your interests and activities may bring you shame

When was the moment that you and your wildness reconciled?
The exact moment when to the chains you finally said your goodbyes
Run barefoot like you used to, squishing your toes within the sands
Your true friends will come out of the woodwork, and be glad you came

The game of peek a boo may appear to be a game that is mild
But this game relates to how to yourself you used to give sighs
Be honest to yourself, tell it to everyone across the lands
You can let your inner child hide for a moment, but do not forget her name

Tuna Cake!

I know I haven't posted a recipe in a while but holy cow was this amazing and delicious!

Need:
1 can of tuna
1/2 cup of bread crumbs (divided)
1 egg
canola oil

Mix 1/4 cup of bread crumbs, egg and tuna in a large bowl.
Form into patties, then coat in more bread crumbs.
Place in oil on the stove for 3 minutes both sides (or until brown).
Place on paper towels to drain before serving.
Enjoy!

Side note: I have frozen these and came out just as good!

Piano

Ballerinas danced across the worn stage
Legs extending between white floorboards
Knees bending at the blackened seats
Melody of practiced charm and grace

Charging smooth soldiers display their rage
Striking in unison to the tune of their lords
As machinery clashes leaving echoes in defeats
Slowly completing the march in cadence and grace

The memory reading a children's book reveals one age
As does the melody of a favorite song and their chords
Reminds one of happier times when friends once greets
Filled with days of muddy clothes and a blushing face

Music brings all together with every tune and written page
From holidays with tunes with lights and hollowed gourds
Singing and playing in the winter colds and summer heats
Listen to the melodies and savor the moments in every pace

Dear Love

Why is a question that I've had so often
And one I've never heard an answer to
You sit up there
With your bow and arrow
And to me
You seem to shoot blindly
At least when it comes to this annoyed human

Is it a joke up there in your high heaven?
To mess with the lives of foolish mortals?
You look down at the fools
Wandering around lost
Wondering when it will strike
Asking for your little arrow
To finally strike true to the annoyed humans heart

Why is it that you are so quick to draw sometimes
Or so so slow to draw on others and make them wait?
Is it because you believe in love
Or you believe that one should wait?
Were you scorned and that is how you got the job?
Or were you offered because you lost
A bet and have to be a slave to annoying humans

Let your arrow fly!
Let it fly true!
Let it fly so it strikes another in the heart!
Let the heart match!
Let them be happy!
Please, strike soon at my friends heart and make them happy
This annoyed human is tired of hearing their moping!

Laugh Even More

I really hate bringing up old memories
but this is better than throwing away keys
I want to bury all the things I remember
From any time with them from January through December

This is essentially a break up letter to the boys
Who discarded me like one of their toys
Every date and mistake that once occurred
Led me down a path that eventually unfurled

There is no other place I'd rather be
And every moment helped me believe and see
That happiness was only one man away
Nowt that he's here and I want him to stay

Love nudged me at the time to wait
All this while I thought it was only late
But now I'm glad that  love was right all along
Because before clearly I was in the wrong

Live a little, love a lot, laugh even more
Time gives us what we need and more

Listen for Spring

Once frozen waters flow freely down the clear paths
Crashing upon ancient rocks and growing flora
Emptying into newer ponds slowly defrosting
Breath of wind curls across the melting ice
Joyful fauna frolic beneath the frozen waves
Eager to be free of the ice that traps all below

Upon the shore snow melts to reveal hibernating creatures
Tails uncurl from twiddling whiskers testing the warmth
Eager ears twitch to listen for the call to finally arise
Small and large, above and below the world awakens
Wings stretch and take flight using perfect practiced voices
Bodies stretch and frolic, dancing with the others songs

Underfoot, the burrowing world welcomes the softer ground
Crawling towards warmth and light to create new homes
Flexing unused wings and legs in the fresh welcoming air
Spreading joy into the budding floral world to encourage growth
Roots twist and curl in the bountiful earth to bless life
Blossoming into the wonderful creation using a detailed plan

I'm Forgetting

Sorry, but I'm forgetting.
Gone are the memories,
Slipping away with age,
Ever so quickly,
Yet I'm not afraid.
Descriptions come slow,
When they wish to appear,
Readily, perhaps tomorrow
Why particular ones
Some day I'll learn,
Now the answer will not appear.
Reality has struck, time waits not,
Time erases sorrow and tears,
Slowly, but quickly we grow.
Wearily we accept that time ticks,
Slowly at first but the pace quickens,
Step by step we accept the dance of time,
Entering a new phase of growth.
Here we recall that we may have forgotten,
Now and again a memory will surface,
Ends are never quite a true end,
Death is but a way to treasure soon forgotten memories.

Premonition

There is nothing more that I fear
Than a feeling that I feel most clear
I cannot describe what someone sends
But I do appreciate the ear that one lends

Who is there to send the message? I do not know
But I know I listen to whoever when they say so
I cannot predict what awaits me every day
But I heed to whomever and what they say

Sometimes it's a butterfly feeling within my body
I'm sure listening to this I probably sound dotty
But I cannot ignore the voices that rattle within my head
If you only you could hear some days what they said

I wish I could thank whoever is watching me when I roam
And even on the days when I stay alone home
There doesn't need to be a name to the angel who does hover
But I appreciate the one who shows me wings that cover

May you be a friend or family member that has passed on
Continue to send your messages until I too am gone

A Little Bit More

There is nothing out there that I love more Than you when you walk through my door Every moment, every adventure and mini quest I love when we travel to the north south east & west!
Quiet moments at home, before the TV and dinner too When we whisper and laugh, oh how I truly love you! Even when we sit in silence in the car or on the couch I tuck away even these moments for when I'm a grouch
Even as I sit here writing this little love letter I'm missing you and wishing that you feel better It's been a very quick four months and a year And yet each time you leave I wish you were back here
We have more adventures to plan and places to roam But my favorite is sitting with you laughing at home I'm still so happy that you walked in through my door As each day that passes I love you just a little bit more

Fallen in Love

I'm good with words, when I write with my pen
I can rhyme, create and make things happen
But to say these sweet things to you, my dear
Well, you truly have nothing to fear

You know there's more to me than what you can see
With you I'm certainly becoming a better me
With what you do, with what you say each night
All of this is much easier to write

I have fallen in love with all of you
Your smile, your heart, yes this is true
Your kiss, your touch, every word that you say
Please make today last forever and a day

Thinking of you always, you do know this
As always, I send your way a loving kiss

Be with Me

I wrote so many love poems and had phrases in my head
These things I retained, to others they remained unsaid
These sweet words were not to be revealed until much later
When they were appreciated by you, someone greater

I come across old snippets of writings that I saved
Of when I was laughing, or when I actually caved
To what life was throwing at me on that particular day
I resorted to writing, and left it unsure of what to say

As I read completed poems and find sketches of lovers
I wonder why I hid these things under journal covers
Then a picture of you and I together comes to mind
And I cannot wait to see what else I can hopefully find

They say that good things come to those who wait
And I'm so happy that you're here, thank you fate
Now I have someone that is the true image of my work
Who loves me for me, every joke to silly quirk

There is absolutely no other person I would rather see
In anything that I write, just you being with me

Disney

Alice found answers in Wonderland
Wendy fell in love in Neverland
Dorothy found a home at Oz
Moana found out her true cause

Aurora woke up in a dream come true
Snow White, so young, she did too
Mulan fought to prove that girls can fight
Merida proved that family is always right

Cinderella spoke up to change her universe
Ariel defended another to break a curse
Jasmine broke down her physical walls
Rapunzel followed her true mother's calls

Belle looked beyond, and broke a societal cord
Tiana built everything to fit her own world
Pocahantas listened to her heart and went to explore
Jane grew up knowing that she always wanted more

Tinker Belle used her knowledge and flew
Elsa let it all go when offered a final cue
Giselle lived naively, until she saw clearly
Esmerelda, though hunted, lived fearlessly

These characters may not have existed at all beyond the page
But to girls wanting to be brave, they have set the stage

FORK

Days like today I want to use all of my words at once
Excluding the one that rhymes with baseball bunts
I want to scream to the world and on every website
How everyone can line up and out of me take a bite

I feel like a prickly cactus and every sense of the simile
There is no cure some days - so just let my attitude be
I can even be a dog on a leash, think just like a girl
Step into my mind right then, I'll make your hair curl

I'll even say that word that is a metaphor what you step in
I know, I know, most of these words belong in the garbage bin
But on days like today, at this moment as I write
My rude word list is as long as the tail of a kite

Occasionally I'll resort to the f word, don't think of a fork
Fortunately I've got a bottle stopper on myself, a type of cork
It's simple really, a muzzle on my cussing, trash talking mind
If you swear like me, well, I swear I like your kind

Once in a while it's healthy to just let every word in your head go
Just remember who is around listening, or you'll hit a new low

Nosy

I don't think how you realize
When you look with prying eyes
And try to find the lies
Or try to make me rise
A little bit of me dies
The rest of me just sighs
Your questions are like flies
Always buzzing in my eyes

I don't think you realize
That around you there's a disguise
I pretend I only have highs
Everything rosy with pies
But I question you with whys
As if you want me to be a prize
My head cannot hold the size
Of you trying to be wise

I don't think you realize
How I don't like what you advise
Can you hear yourself chastise?
Or is this actually a surprise
On how I can improvise
These words I truly despise
Can you hear my hidden cries
This plea does not need a reprise

Old Love Letters

Do you remember in elementary school swapping notes?
Then finding the torn super secret messages in your coats?
Of codes that you've forgotten how to read over the year
But if the teachers could read them, oh how we did fear!

In middle school there were less real words and more codes
Usually about homework and how we all had loads and loads
Do you remember writing about your crush of the day
Or you blushed the first time he said to you 'hey'?

High school we became a bit more sophisticated in our ways
Texting and typing, no more letter writing in our days
There were a few notes stashed away in our lockers and books
But not often, after awhile we'd develop the 'cellphone looks'

As we age our love letters become more concrete each year
And attached with less 'hi sexy' but more 'I adore you, dear'
The littlest things, such as opening the door, become appreciated
And the best of these things never become outdated

Whether you are young, wild and free or older and a bit tame
You should know that love is forever, and for every gentleman and dame
