Braces

It started off in the end of elementary
When I started to become invisible
When the other girls found themselves
And I decided to stay the same

Around that time I found myself
With shorter hair and awful braces
Continuously running late to class
And learning a lesson on being free

I never did fit in with the other girls
Whose main interest was clothes and boys
I'd rather have a history chat
Or stuff my nose in a brand new book

Over time the hair grew long
My braces were finally removed
But I still stayed the same
With no interest in fashion or the boys

I'd like to think that's what you saw in me
Those many years ago
And why you still like to sometimes talk to me
I'm just glad you saw me then and now
