I’m the Modern Day Sandra Dee
Who couldn’t hurt anything, not even a flea
I don’t drink *No!*
I don’t smoke *No!*
I never had my ears pierced *No!*
I follow the rules and still try to have fun
But if I say no then you know I’m all done
I’ll have a few sips of the soda drink
I won’t swear, just call you a fink
No, I won’t swear *No!*
I won’t dirty flirt *No!*
I just giggle and laugh and flirt away being innocent
The feelings I have don’t come with jut the rent
I do cry a little inside
When I see young ones just go along for the ride
I want to help all of them but I’m not sure how
It seems that they all want everything now
I’m Sandra Dee but only before she changed
Just know that my emotions are on the ranged
I like who I am *No!*
It’s who I want to keep *No!*
So Pink Ladies, thanks for the fun times
Just know that later on in your life you’ll be paying all the fines
I’ll be who I want to be
That’s just who I am, pretty soon you’ll see
I’m just going to strut around and be Me.

The First Girl President
I wanted to be the first girl president when I grew up. I remember telling the kids on the bus that, and the hopeful faces that my girl friends had when they looked at me. They cheered, Rachel Rachel Rachel! Like in a cheer! They were my own cheerleaders!
Being the new girl I loved that cheer, I wanted it to keep going, and I heard it in my head every day of my life, Rachel, Rachel, Rachel!
I went through school with Courtney, we were the best of friends and she helped with the cheerleading squad. The one person cheerleading squad, thats what best friends are for right?
I don't know why I can hear the children cheering my name right now, I don't understand it. I'm so far away from the bus, I can see the bus and how I looked through the years.
Parents looked up to me I suppose, I was a good babysitter, and I did set my own trends. I called myself 'Ray' for about six months, exploring more like it. I had a boyfriend before all the other girls, but I knew how to handle them, I read books. I lost it at the age of fifteen. Mikeys behind bars now, wasn't because of me, unrelated problem.
I could be seen as a leader, I gave girls ideas on what to wear, on what to say, how to act and how to pass the class without handing in a grade. Some of the girls didn't like me, but they didn't dislike me either. I just found a way to get along.
Farther into high school I realized that I wasn't going anywhere with the persona that I had created and I decided once I hit college I would ditch it. And ditch it I did. I cut my hair again, started dating older men and well, never looked back.
I don't know why I suddenly rememberd the kids on the bus chanting my name, almost like they believed in me. After all, what girl wouldn't want to be the first girl president?

Pies & Beers
I am not without tradition, where ever I go.
Here sit right here in this chair, I’ll put on a show.
Here on the left you can see that my family is quite big,
The farthest back I can go is to man, who I believe wore a wig!
He was English and proper and I’m guessing quite a man,
As for his last name, as you can tell, I’m still quite a fan.
Zipping forward we find the beginning of this happy band
And the woman in their marriage gave a hand.
You see one came to America first on a rusty old ship,
She came right after and didn’t even have to pay for a roundtrip.
They had kids, kept a few traditions and they still exist today,
They will last forever and forever! At least that I pray,
The next followers came much the same way
Where I live now is where they decided to stay.
Work, work, work, all day long, traditions all the way
There was no meeting the big boss-man halfway.
The families got married and had even more kids,
As far as we know none had died of SIDS.
Twenty years later those families met again,
Funny how what goes around comes back again.
The family grows and shrinks within the years,
Every year was share more stories over pies and beers.

God's grace
I wonder how many people will ignore this without reading it because of the title. It is a shame but this message is very true. Hope you are all as blessed as I was by this story.
There once was a man named George Thomas, pastor in a small New England town. One Easter Sunday morning he came to the Church carrying a rusty, bent, old bird cage, and set it by the pulpit. Eyebrows were raised and, as if in response, Pastor Thomas began to speak....
I was walking through town yesterday when I saw a young boy coming toward me swinging this bird cage. On the bottom of the cage were three little wild birds, shivering with cold and fright.
I stopped the lad and asked, "What do you have there, son?"
"Just some old birds," came the reply.
"What are you going to do with them?" I asked.
"Take 'em home and have fun with 'em," he answered. "I'm gonna tease 'em and pull out their feathers to make ' em fight. I'm gonna have a real good time."
"But you'll get tired of those birds sooner or later. What will you do then?"
"Oh, I got some cats," said the little boy. "They like birds. I'll take 'em to them."
The pastor was silent for a moment. "How much do you want for those birds, son?"
"Huh??!!! Why, you don't want them birds, mister. They're just plain old field birds. They don't sing. They ain't even pretty!"
"How much?" the pastor asked again.
The boy sized up the pastor as if he were crazy and said, "$10?"
The pastor reached in his pocket and took out a ten dollar bill. He placed it in the boy's hand. In a flash, the boy was gone. The pastor picked up the cage and gently carried it to the end of the alley where there was a tree and a grassy spot. Setting the cage down, he opened the door, and by softly tapping the bars persuaded the birds out, setting them free. Well, that explained the empty bird cage on the pulpit, and then the pastor began to tell this story:
One day Satan and Jesus were having a conversation. Satan had just come from the Garden of Eden, and he was gloating and boasting. "Yes, sir, I just caught a world full of people down there. Set me a trap and used bait I knew they couldn't resist. Got 'em all!"
"What are you going to do with them?" Jesus asked.
Satan replied, "Oh, I'm gonna have fun! I'm gonna teach them how to marry and divorce each other, how to hate and abuse each other, how to drink and smoke and curse. I'm gonna teach them how to invent guns and bombs and kill each other. I'm really gonna have fun!"
"And what will you do when you are done with them?" Jesus asked.
"Oh, I'll kill 'em," Satan glared proudly.
"How much do you want for them?" Jesus asked.

"How much?” He asked again.
Satan looked at Jesus and sneered, "All your blood, tears and your life."
Jesus said, "DONE!" Then He paid the price.

I pray for everyone who sends this on, whether to their entire address book or just a few, that God will bless them in a special way. And for those that just deleted it......... and I KNOW there will be some.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?
I thank God everyday for my blessed life. I'm not rich, don't live in a mansion and don't have the nicest of material things, but, I'm healthy, have a roof over my head, clothes on my back, food on my table, a family that loves me and lifelong friends to get me through. I'd say I have a lot to be thankful for.

Teaching (2)
Okay so today is (a little warmer) and defintly on the teacher side. I wore this short knee length purple dress over ankle high leggings and under a 3/4 button up sweater. Definetly made me look a little more teacheresqe but also kept me a little warmer than my mishap over Valentines Day. I cinched the deal with a pearly necklace and pearly earrings. Just a splash of fashion on a dreary outfit. Then when I took off the sweater I still looked nice!
Pearls are always the way to go when you have a plan outfit I've learned!

Teaching (1)
My favorite place to shop, I'll admit, is My Cousin's Closet. Yes dear people, I love that place, alsways in my size and always what I want. And the price is always reasonable! So anywho, this post is a bit late but this was my solution to Valentines Day! So to be a little blue I dressed it up with my heart pin for that flash of red and voila! I had the pretty little outfit that I have posted above. I LOVED IT!
I paired that pretty shirt with a plain long ankle high tights and flats and off I went! Beautiful little outfit. Of course I realized how silly I was when it was close to 30 degrees out still and I was Freezing.
Lesson Learned!

New
Once upon a time I was told that Prince Charming did exist
But I realize now that if I had one then in other relationships he will be missed
I wish and wish upon the star that is high above my head
11:11 comes around twice a day, but now I fear that time is dead
I wish on my eyelashes, on yours as well
But no matter how much I wish none of the wishes come true
I look for more luck by ringing bells for all angels
I have a lucky rabbits foot, a lucky penny too
Now day after day I look more and more like a fool
Yesterday I looked in the eyes of a green eyed boy
Today I did the same in a blue eyed marine core's
I wish them the both of luck and I hope they treat their girls right
If they don't then I hope the girls will put up a fight
And demand that their boys treat them right
My wish is the same I wish for one that will treat me the same
I've had a boy who needed a hand
And theres another who wanted to be in a band
I wish that he could also carry a tune
Serenade me to bed, and help me wake up in the morn'
Sweet tunes please, thats all I ask
But that is just a small portion of what I wish
Alas I don't believe that he does exist
I'd love a voice, but that doesn't make a man perfect
What makes a man perfect is his protection
And the way that he'll never let me go
I'd ask him to let me a little loose, once in a while
Just so I can hug my family!
No lease, he can trust me that much
And in return I'll lavish his dinner plate with roses and lace
Once in a while I'll let him cook, and I'll clean ... half of the house
Theres so much that I can do for the man that I'll love
As long as he sends me as much love back ... so I hope.
The biggest thing of all, the answer to my prayers
Is that my man dance, pick me up and swing me low
Swing me around, and once more never let me go
I'll never be cold because his hug is so warm
I'll never feel alone because I can still feel his hug
Let me know when he comes around
When you don't look things like that tend to be found
I know that not all prayers are answered
I just hope that one day mine will be
It's just a little wish
It may, it may not be answered
I just hope that one day we'll meet
Some day he'll hear my song
But I realize now that if I had one then in other relationships he will be missed

Check The Can
I WAS BUYING FOOD THE OTHER DAY AT WALMART.
ON THE LABEL OF SOME PRODUCTS IT SAID 'FROM CHINA '.
FOR EXAMPLE THE "OUR FAMILY" BRAND OF THE MANDARIN ORANGES SAYS RIGHT ON THE CAN 'FROM CHINA '.
I WAS SHOCKED!! SO FOR A FEW MORE CENTS I BOUGHT THE LIBERTY GOLD BRAND OR THE DOLE SINCE IT'S FROM CALIF.
Are we Americans as dumb as we appear --- or --- is it that we just do not think? While the Chinese, knowingly and intentionally, export inferior and even toxic products and dangerous toys and goods to be sold in American markets.
SOLVE IT YOURSELF, AMERICA !!
Simply look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says 'Made in China ' or 'PRC' (and that now includes Hong Kong ), simply choose another product, or none at all. You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese products, and you will be equally amazed at what you can do without.
Who needs plastic eggs to celebrate Easter? If you must have eggs, use real ones and benefit some American farmer. Easter is just an example, the point is do not wait for the government to act. Just go ahead and assume control on your own.
THINK ABOUT THIS: If 200 million Americans refuse to buy just $20 each of Chinese goods, that's a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favor...fast!!
The solution? Let's give them fair warning and send our own message. Most of the people who have been reading about this matter are planning on implementing this on April 1 and continue it until May 1. That is only one month of trading losses, but it will hit the Chinese for 1/12th of the total, or 8%, of their American exports. Then they will at least have to ask themselves if the benefits of their arrogance and lawlessness were worth it.
Remember, April 1 to May 1
START NOW.
Did you all see that Diane Sawyer has a special report coming up this week on this very subject. They removed ALL items from a typical, middleclass family’s home, that were not made in the USA. There was hardly anything left besides the kitchen sink. Literally. During the special they are going to show truckloads of items – USA made – being brought in to replace everything. And will be talking about how to find these items and the difference in price etc.
It was interesting that Diane said that if every American spent just $64 (more than normal) on USA made items this year, it would create something like 200,000 new jobs.

The Hobbit
"TIME!!!" it echoed around the caveren. Bilbo thought it was the wrong answer, but Gollum had tricked him. Oh what was a poor trapped hobbit to do? Give the right answer and live.
Riddles from The Hobbit
Gollum's riddles:
What has roots as nobody sees,
Is taller than trees,
Up, up it goes
And yet never grows?
Answer: Mountain
Voiceless it cries,
Wingless flutters,
Toothless bites,
Mouthless mutters.
Answer: Wind
It cannot be seen, cannot be felt,
Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt.
It lies behind stars and under hills,
And empty holes it fills.
It comes first and follows after,
Ends life, kills laughter.
Answer: Dark
Alive without breath,
As cold as death;
Never thirsty, ever drinking,
All in mail never clinking.
Answer: Fish
This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town
And beats high mountain down.
Answer: Time
Bilbo's Riddles
Thirty white horses on a red hill,
First they champ,
Then they stamp,
Then they stand still.
Answer: Teeth
An eye in a blue face
Saw an eye in a green face.
"That eye is like to this eye"
Said the first eye,
"But in low place
Not in high place."
Answer: Sun on the daisies
No legs lay on one-leg, two-legs sat near on three-legs, four legs got some.
Answer: Fish on a little table, man at table sitting on a stool, the cat has the bones.
A box without hinges, key, or lid,
Yet golden treasure inside is hid.
Answer: Eggs(es ;))
What have I got in my pockets??
Answer: The Ring!

Dear Hottest, Sexist Man I knew in High School;
Yes, I wrote a letter. Why? Because its a little bit more personal. Haha what am I saying about being personal, you don’t know what personal means!
About ten minutes ago I recalled something you told me, that I would not be a woman until I had sex. Hah! I’m laughing right now as I’m writing this to you. Hah, Haha! I don’t need sex to grow up or to be an adult. I have accomplished so much more than you have done in your own bed!
I’ve won so many awards, graduated from so many programs and most importantly from school and now am attending a very prestigious college. And guess what, I do have a life. I do have friends that graduated, are not sex addicts and have lives too.
I’m a woman, and part of being a woman is being a man too. Why is that? Because I can do just about everything you can do, and more. I’m better than you because of what I know. I know that I don’t need you haunting my pure thoughts with images of sex.
I’m not perfect, nor is anyone else in the world. I’m struggling in math and my spelling has been going atrocious lately but I’m doing what I love. And that is teaching. And right now I’m teaching you. I know you’re with a younger girl (for crying out loud she’s younger than me! And I was younger than you!) so please treat her right. Or she might be out for revenge like all your other past girls.
Whats sad is that story you told me. About you hooked up with a girl and come to find out your own dad dated her not too long before. Honestly? Or did you only tell me that to get attention? You’re sad.
I know I fell, hard, for you, but it was out of rage. Rage because I was being cheated on. He wasn’t cheating on me, it was over long before it began.
I do hope to see you again, bring up another spark of ‘wow’ into my life, but thats not because you were devishly handsome, which you probably still are, but its because I think I was in love with that long ago. And yet, I somehow got enough courage to walk out of your house when you asked me to do the deed with you. I Walked Out. Remember that? I bet it still haunts you, the virgin that got away.
You live in my Ipod of all places, damn you for having that solo in the spring concert, but also bless you for having that beautiful tenor voice. And so I hear you practially every time I turn on my Ipod. I do hope you’re still singing, don’t let it go to waste.
Some day we’ll both get married, and I’ll eventually be bedded. And it won’t be in your bed. It’ll be in my honeymoon bed by a man that I love. Once that was you, and maybe it will be again in the future but right now it’s not and I’m not looking that far ahead yet.
I don’t need sex to be an adult. I don’t need you telling me that I need sex to grow up. I don’t need you. Call me a child, but in my mind I am an adult, more of one than you’ll ever be.
Goodbye, perhaps for now, perhaps forever,
Signed,
The One that Got Away ♥

Class*
Ask yourselves this when you reach to shut of your night light tonight, what class are you a part of? And I’m not talking about the race class, if your white or black, pink with polka dots or green with yellow stripes. I’m talking about the class such as middle class, lower class or high class. Now look at your parents, your family, your area and the classes you were taught in. Are you shunted into these classes because of your class? Were you raised on a farm, and when entering high school shunted into classes that dealt mainly with high machinery and low level thinking classes? How about if you come from an affluent family, you have the smarts, the clothes and the attitude that you rule the school, do the teachers pay more attention and give you the better grades? Ah now you see it. You were born middle class, you’re going to stay in middle class, don’t think of trying to get out of it. You’re parents were born there, your grandparents lived there and the rest of your family will always stay there. Or will they? Do you want to live in a world where every person’s fate is decided on a description or a label? Oh she has blue hair; she’s to be ignored because she is too weird. That person’s clothes are too baggy, she must be pregnant. He has a really high voice, he must be gay. He dyed his hair black and let it grow out; he must be an Emo kid. Really society? Is this really how you want to raise your kids, to give labels to everyone that they meet? Look within the schools there are label there too. There are the kids who aren’t going to make it because the teachers don’t believe in them. These kids are shunted into the lowest classes and disregarded. Why bother teaching them? They get all the answers wrong anyways. They’ll have a job when they get out of here. Here give them a grade that’s just good enough so they don’t have to stay back. Really? C’mon you have to do better than that. What if you payed attention to Cooper and he ended up becoming a brain surgeon? What if you listened to Ashley’s silent plea for help and helped her become a lawyer? What if? There shouldn’t be labeling in schools, all should receive the same education and the same amount of respect from teachers, administration and the other students. Okay sure give all the kids the same uniform, now you can’t tell who can’t afford the uniform and who can. Great, there’s one problem solved. Now what about the students who need school supplies? Great, we have those donated. What about the students who don’t want to speak in class? Great, they can be placed up front. What is the hidden message here? We’re telling the kids that do not have these offers in place that they’re not important enough; they shouldn’t receive a decent education because they are going right back where they started and working on the farm like the rest of their family. Or they’ll become mechanics, or pumping gas, in the sewer plants or working the factories for the rest of their lives. Is this what we want to teach them? Survival of the fittest shouldn’t apply to a human, that is an animal reaction that should be put into the submissive section of our brains. Don’t be ignorant, look at what we are teaching unconsciously. Let’s make a change, next time we try to label someone, turn around and compliment them for their creativity, originality and attitude. If we all did this, we all could change the world.

Heaven
Threre's so much war and destruction going on in the world, Sometimes I'm afraid to leave my bed. My car becomes a death trap, the food I eat can become poisonous. I could fall and break a bone the right way, I could electrocute myself, or the ceiling could fall on my head. There are so many dangers in the world, and there are some havens of peace. But not very many.
I've read about heaven, heard people speak of it, and swear by it, but what do we really know about heaven?
As children we hear that if we give up everything that we have before we die, we will walk into heaven knowing that we will live in a golden castle. And those that still go to heaven but do not give their belongings away will live in shacks, but made of other worthy material. The streets are paved with diamonds, and everyone is happy. In movies, the children have angel wings, but only receive the wings if there is bell rung for them. It's a better place for all to live in, "... and people are kind." (Suessical)
I was driving home the other day and found myself dreaming of my heaven. I don't know why, but I was. In my heaven it was quiet, and trees blooming with white flowers decorated the rolling landscape. Just outside of the garden of white roses there was a rolling hill, and I could run up it as fast as I wanted and still never see what was on the other side. I'd never see what was on the other side, but it was how I wanted it to be. At night I would lie in the glade and look up at the thousands of stars and galaxies that brilliantly lit up the 'bluesh black thing that got stuck up there." (Lion King) I would have wings, and I could fly, high into the sky to dance with the clouds and flit along the wind.
Some day I'll go there, and that will be a hundred years from now, so I have nothing to worry about. By and by my heaven will become a little bigger, just for now I can see it, just over that horizon.

If All The Raindrops
If all the raindrops were lemondrops and gumdrops
Oh, what a rain that would be.
Standing outside with my mouth open wide,

Lights
I want to dance
Softly Sliding Gliding Flying Across the Stage
Feel the audiances eyes watching my every move
Yet I cannot see or hear them
Not until the very end.
No describable words can define the way I move
Twisting Turning Contorting into Shapeful Images
Dancing Alone, the Light trained on Me
But sometimes when dancing alone the steps become Irregular
Off beat dancing to the wrong tune then back again without
Missing a beat
For once I wish I had a partner
Someone to share the spotlight with
A solitary dance to a solitary tune
Can turn into a duet in step and Song
He can take my hand spin me right into his arms
Lift me by my waist
Skillfully turn my balanced body on one foot
Dips me low and slow with the tapping of the Tango
Picks me Up, Spins me Around
And as a finale kisses me and the audiance applauds
When the magic ends and the music stops
We Will cease to Exist as the lights go out.

8 Money Tips From Suess!
A Dr. Seuss story may not conjure up images of Wall Street, but believe it or not, many Dr. Seuss (a.k.a. Theodor Geisel) classics can teach us quite a bit about personal finance. From the trouble with indecision, as portrayed in "Hunches in Bunches," to the importance of finding a career that you love ("Oh, the Places You'll Go!"), the good doctor encouraged bright minds to follow their hearts, question the world and value the things that can't be bought over money itself.
At MainStreet, we feel there's no better way to start a conversation about money with your children than by sharing a terrific story. So in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday and National Reading Day, here are the eight money lessons Dr. Seuss tried to teach us, along with some expert tips to get your children thinking about finance.
Never Choose? You'll Always Lose
"It's awfully awfully awful when you can't make up your mind!" -- "Hunches in Bunches"
"Hunches in Bunches" centers on a boy who can't seem to decide what to do one day. He sits in his room pondering all the things he could do -- play football, eat six hot dogs or go outside -- but just when it seems that he's made up his mind, he finds a reason to go against it, leaving the day's activities in limbo.
In terms of personal finance, indecision stems from a lack of financial literacy, says Lori Mackey, founder of prosperity4kids.com, a site that creates personal finance learning materials for children. "If you have more education, you feel more comfortable about making [money] decisions. But a lot of people feel paralyzed because they don't know enough and aren't confident enough to make those decisions." The takeaway from Hunches, then, is that money is a choice, Mackey says. "You have choices with the friends you're going to pick. You have a choice to spend it or save it. Think before you do it."
Help your children make positive money decisions by encouraging them to follow their gut, says Mackey. Ask them, "What does that voice say to you? If something doesn't feel right, don't do it."
Get a Career to Have No Fear
"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose." -- "Oh, The Places You'll Go!"
There's a reason newly minted college grads often receive the children's classic "Oh, The Places You'll Go!" as a well-wishing gift: The book discusses all the opportunities that are available to you, notes Mackey. "When you own your career, you're going to own your financial direction. If you own it and you take control of it, that applies to personal finance, too. Are you going to set a plan in place and make it happen?"
While what we do with our lives and our money is our choice, if we stay trapped in indecision, or allow others to choose for us, we essentially lose the freedom to think for ourselves.
Bucks Don't Bring Luck
Seuss's "Daisy-Head Mayzie" portrays a young girl who sprouts a daisy from her head that makes her incredibly rich and famous, but the story echoes the old adage that money can't buy you happiness when Daisy discovers she feels all alone despite her great wealth.
"Money gives you choices, freedom and security to do what you're passionate about," says Mackey, but it should never define one intangible thing like your happiness or who you are. "When you have only one idea about money that can be a problem. When you strip everything away from anybody, they would always go and help someone or do something that they care about."
Be Clean to Save Green
"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." -- "The Lorax"
A cautionary tale about the dangers of polluting the environment for personal or industrial gain, "The Lorax" has probably made many readers think twice about recycling their Coke bottles. Still, too few adults strive to reuse and recycle as much as they can, laments Mackey. "It all goes into supply and demand, and our resources are going to go away if we don't reuse, recycle and rethink," she says.
Get your children to think about the ways they can help their environment, and possibly cut utility costs by asking, What's important to you? "That will bring out what a child's passions are," says Mackey, which will make them feel empowered to help Mother Nature. "Not everybody's the same, but if we all give back, we can make a difference in all areas."
Every Pill Brings a Bill
"When at last we are sure you've been properly filled, then a few paper forms must be properly filled so that you and your heirs may be properly billed." -- "You're Only Old Once"
Growing old and relying on doctors to check up on you all the time can be a big headache, but Dr. Seuss has a way of making the expensive ordeal seem hilarious. But Seuss, who isn't really a doctor, wants you to know that one day, you too will have to pay hefty medical bills and you'll want your wallet to be prepared.
As parents, you're probably not comfortable yet with discussing sticky subjects like retirement or long-term care with your child, but you can start a conversation about "where they'd like to be when they grow up," says Mackey. "I ask my children, 'do you want to be wealthy or do you want to be poor?' That will get them thinking about the kind of life they'd like to have."
Try Something New to Get a Clue
"I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like them Sam I am!" -- "Green Eggs and Ham"
The theme of this tale, says Mackey, is that if you try it, you might like it. "So many people don't know how to invest, and then they don't do it, but I say, 'Just try it!' People are so scared to try something that it just paralyzes them." If things aren't working, or rather, the ham tastes like spam, then you need to try something else. "I tell my kids, if something's not working, do the opposite," Mackey says.
Choose to Do the Job for You
"This was no time for play. This no time for fun. This was no time for games. There was work to be done." -- "The Cat in the Hat Comes Back"
When the Cat in the Hat returns to visit his young friends, it isn't all fun and games. There is snow to be shoveled and a house to be cleaned. The story teaches the value of hard work and the importance of being dedicated to whatever you decide to pursue.
"I always say to my kids, 'you have to enjoy what you're doing or you won't make any money,'" Mackey jokes. "This will empower you to make more later. The feeling is worthless when you do something half-way. When you give it all you've got, that's priceless."
Always Want What You've Got
"One droopy-droop feather. That's all that she had. And, oh! That one feather made Gertrude so sad." -- Gertrude McFuzz
In the short story collection "Yertle the Turtle," Gertrude McFuzz describes a young girl-bird who envies her peers' more bountiful plumage. She complains to her uncle that it isn't fair, but unable to simply be happy with what she has, her uncle eventually lets on that eating one berry from the pill-berry vine will help her grow one more feather. Of course instead of eating just one, Gertrude goes overboard and eats 36 -- so many that she becomes too heavy to fly.
"For kids, I think the hardest part is watching them feel like less of a person because someone has more than they have," says Mackey. "But I always ask my children, 'Who bought it?' They don't know the value and importance of it, and it really turns into a self-esteem issue." The moral of this story: Love what you've got. "You really never know what somebody else's situation is," adds Mackey. "Be careful what you wish for because you just don't know."

8 Best Tips to Take the Best Picture
What guarantees a great photo these days? We asked style and photography mavens to share their tips for taking a picture that will get results. Below are eight of their suggestions.
1. Do your do. “Get your hair cut at least a few days before the shoot if you need it to ‘settle in’ before it looks its best,” suggests Jay Groccia, principal photographer at OnSite Studios in Boylston, MA.
2. Be bold. Gretta Monahan, style expert on Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style and the Rachael Ray Show, says wearing bright colors is key. “It makes your complexion look healthier and gives you a more youthful, spirited glow. With a bright color, you’ll certainly pop on the page.” Avoid wearing all white; it makes you look pale and pasty.
3. Mind your makeup. “A tiny hint of bronzer always helps to warm up the face,” says celebrity makeup artist Mally Roncal, whose clients include Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez. “Use eyeliner on your top lid, and define your eyebrows. Avoid wearing lipstick that’s too dark — you can’t go wrong with a pink lip gloss, which makes lips look fuller and healthier.”
4. Strike a pose. “Looking directly into the camera makes for a very boring looking photo and makes the nose appear very large,” asserts Chris Paxman, a photographer based in Mesa, AZ. “Try pointing your chin ever so slightly to the left or right, and look back to the camera with your eyes only.”
5. Watch your back(ground). “Too much going on in the background increases the chances of getting lost in the portrait or looking like you have strange lines emerging from your body,” cautions Tarah Cranford, a photographer in San Francisco. Stand in front of a wall that contrasts well with what you’re wearing, or hang a solid-colored towel or sheet behind you. Or find backgrounds with interesting but subtle textures like garage doors, columns or wallpapered walls.
6. Get comfortable. “You want your photo to convey that you are warm and inviting,” says Nicole Braun, owner and chief photographer of Wink in New York City. “So have a light and happy conversation and your body language will fall right in line. Another way to relax is by watching a TV show or movie that you know makes you laugh and smile. Listening to a song that puts you in a positive and happy place is great, too.”
7. See the light. Cold or harsh lighting is seriously unflattering. Natural light is the best, according to Richard Brown, a photographer in Seattle. “Try to use a good window light. If you take the head shots outside, avoid pure sunlight on your face. Use anything from a white sheet to a white wall to reflect and add fill light to your face.”
8. Forget the flash. “Never use flash, especially when shooting yourself in the mirror,” says Roman Gabriel, who’s photographed the Dandy Warhols and James Brown, among others. “Full-frontal, nondiffused flash is the most unflattering image you can take of yourself. It creates red-eye, overexposes skin tones and highlights flaws. If you must use the flash, try placing a small piece of tracing paper just over the front of the flash to soften up the light, giving the photo a pleasing, slightly airbrushed appeal.”
Finally, have plenty of photos taken of you in different locations, clothes and poses, and in varying light. “Let’s cancel out the myth that some people always take a good picture while others don’t,” Monahan says. “Even celebrities and models take hundreds of pictures during a shoot. If you don’t like the first few shots, don’t settle. Keep going until you feel comfortable and relaxed. That will be the best photo of the bunch.”
Margot Carmichael Lester’s photography has appeared in TravelAge West, the Carrboro Citizen and DialTone.

Another Way
Darling it's true this is paradise,
Please don't with evil intentions
Use that device.
Heaven on Earth is here child,
Stop waving that horror with that wild
Look in your eye.
Do you believe that all the pain
Will just dissapear, washed
Away by the rain?
Find help please, don't blame
Yourself, later on life
is not always the same.
Don't swallow it all,
One leap of bad faith,
Together we can prevent a fall.
Take my hand, drop that gun,
Untie the noose, drop the poison,
There is no safe way to run.

He and his girlfriend had a huge fight and afterwards he went home, took his dads shotgun, drove to the top of the local ski area and blew the back of his head off according to police reports. Hikers found his body the next morning. My heart goes out to his family and friends that we both have.

Honest Abe & Kyle
The best president of all time: President Lincoln. Think about it, he is one of the tallest, most honest presidents we have ever had. He wanted to put an end to slavery, saw the future of education and also had a great taste in the arts, after all he was assassinated in a theatre! Upon recollection I remembered a smarty that I went to school with years ago, sometime in elementary school, before he met the wrong crowd. I remember how I wanted to marry him, all girls wanted to wear the big white dress as soon as possible, marry the smartest boy in class and everything like that. So, Kyle, the class and I had ventured out of our town one day and ended up in a museum located out of town and somewhere we never had been. There was an exhibit that had caught my eye, you took a short quiz and hit the button of who you believed to be the best president ever. It was the late nineties, early two-thousand, when Bush was still around with his No Child Left Behind shenanigan, and Kyle voted for Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln. He hit the button (somehow he managed to cheat to get there quickly) and pushed it perhaps a dozen times before he noticed that I was standing behind him. Spinning he looked at me sheepishly and said “Lincoln is the best president of all time.” Then he ran back to the class. I’ll never forget that, he probably did, but it makes me laugh. I still can’t remember where we went, or who was teaching the class but it was still a memorable moment. Or maybe I just remember it because the smartest boy in the class actually talked to me!

Lisp
"Thath the endth of thath," I replied.
And she looked at me with a face that I instantly denied.
I gave her the eye and she knew I lied,
And with a twist of my lip and under my breath I "fie" 'd
I took a sip of my drink,
Made a face because it did stink
And so drained it into the sink,
I spat after it and called him a fink.
I looked away then spotted a bite,
It filled me up, it felt so frothy and light,
When I turned around with a plate and a fork I did look a sight,
"Don't you dare take my chocolate," I said, or "I'll put up a fight!"
They left me alone in the kitchen, they left me in the dark,
For an instant I felt naked and stark,
I felt a little odd, ready to sing like a lark,
Then my mood did change, I threw the fork, I hit my invisible mark.
"I hathe you!" I screamed at the picture,
Obviously chocolate was not the cure.
I decided to fishing was, so I grabbed my favorite lure,
I was not in the mood to look immature.
Tonight was not the best fishing night, so I went in to sleep
I couldn't very quickly so I counted sheep.
Finally dreams came and away from the real world I did leap,
I found myself looking down off of a mountian, I felt dizzy, it seemed so steep.
"Ith's fine," I cried, "Now leave me alone."
So in my dream I closed my eyes and dropped like a stone.
As I fell I heard the winds scream and moan
Softly I landed and upon impact I let out a soft groan.
The dust settled and I opened my eyes,
Around me it seemed, the colors were of the wrong dyes.
Lying around me were stranger, relaxing with quiet sighs
No longer listening to the little white lies.
Slowly I lifted off of the soft ground,
Quietly I twisted myself around,
Above me was things that did not want to be found,
I was awarded with the absence of sound.

Eating Words
In the Gospel I heard today my priest talked about how we can live on the words of God alone. Upon further reflection I realized that he was right, in an offhand way. God said ‘Let there be light,’ and who would’ve thunk, but we can survive on sunlight. Plants do after all, and there are studies proving that as a race humans do tend to become grumpier when we are less likely to see the sun or feel its warm rays. Try it one day; mark off how many times you snap at a person during a fairly cloudy week. Then try it again on a fairly sunny week. So who’s grumpy now, Grumpy? He gave us plants on another day, animals the next and so on and so forth, so now we can eat. We can live on his words alone because with his words he created the word for us to live in. So how many of you did not see that before?

5 Life Lessons
During my second month of college, our professor
Gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student
Gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student
And had breezed through the questions until I read
The last one:
"What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?"
Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the
Cleaning woman several times. She was tall,
Dark-haired and in her 50's, but how would I know her name?
I handed in my paper, leaving the last question
Blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if
The last question would count toward our quiz grade.
"Absolutely, " said the professor. "In your careers,
You will meet many people. All are significant.. They
Deserve your attention and care, even if all you do
Is smile and say "hello."
I've never forgotten that lesson.. I also learned her
Name was Dorothy..
2. - Second Important Lesson - Pickup in the Rain
One night, at 11:30 p.m., an older African American
Woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway
Trying to endure a lashing rain storm. Her car had
Broken down and she desperately needed a ride.
Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car.
A young white man stopped to help her, generally
Unheard of in those conflict-filled 1960's. The man
Took her to safety, helped her get assistance and
Put her into a taxicab.
She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his
Address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a
Knock came on the man's door. To his surprise, a
Giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A
Special note was attached.
It read:
"Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway
The other night. The rain drenched not only my
Clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along.
Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying
Husband's' bedside just before he passed away... God
Bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving
Others."
Sincerely,
Mrs. Nat King Cole.
3 - Third Important Lesson - Always remember those
Who serve.
In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less,
A 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and
Sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in
Front of him.
"How much is an ice cream sundae?" he asked.
"Fifty cents," replied the waitress.
The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and
Studied the coins in it.
"Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?" he inquired.
By now more people were waiting for a table and the
Waitress was growing impatient.
"Thirty-five cents," she brusquely replied.
The little boy again counted his coins.
"I'll have the plain ice cream," he said.
The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on
The table and walked away The boy finished the ice
Cream, paid the cashier and left. When the waitress
Came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the
Table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish,
Were two nickels and five pennies..
You see, he couldn't have the sundae, because he had
To have enough left to leave her a tip.
4 - Fourth Important Lesson. - The obstacle in Our Path.
In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a
Roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if
Anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the
King's' wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by
And simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the
King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did
Anything about getting the stone out of the way.
Then a peasant came along carrying a load of
Vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the
peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the
stone to the side of the road. After much pushing
and straining, he finally succeeded. After the
peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed
a purse lying in the road where the boulder had
been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note
from the King indicating that the gold was for the
person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The
peasant learned what many of us never understand!
Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve
our condition.
5 - Fifth Important Lesson - Giving When it Counts...
Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a
hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who
was suffering from a rare & serious disease. Her only
chance of recovery appeared to be a blood
transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had
miraculously survived the same disease and had
developed the antibodies needed to combat the
illness. The doctor explained the situation to her
little brother, and asked the little boy if he would
be willing to give his blood to his sister.
I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a
deep breath and saying, "Yes I'll do it if it will save
her." As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed
next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing
the color returning to her cheek. Then his face
grew pale and his smile faded.
He looked up at the doctor and asked with a
trembling voice, "Will I start to die right away".
Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the
doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his
sister all of his blood in order to save her.
Now you have choices.
1 Ignore this post, or
2. Forward it other people.
I hope that you will choose No. 2 and remember.
Most importantly..... "Work like you
don't need the money, love like you've never been
hurt, and dance like you do when nobody's watching."
NOW more than ever - Please... Pass It On...
You never know how or when you'll be paid!

The Sun and the Moon
Billions of years ago, the Sun and the Moon were lovers. They spun and danced around the skies without a care, and their love was without measure.
"How long will we be together?" Asked the moon. Her question she asked each night they shared together.
"As long as there is time, we shall be together." The sun would reply. He answered each morning they woke together.
The moon gave him her deep understanding, passion, and beauty. The sun gave her his firey love, bright personality, and warmth. Together they were perfect, and they knew that alone, they would never survive. Back then, the run burned much less, and did was not so violent. The moon was also a lush planet with plants and animals on it. They both kept each other alive, and happy.
One fateful day, they can too close to each other as they danced in the skied, and the sun burnt the moon by accident. He was so wound up in the dance that he didn't notice, and hurt her badly, burning all of her plants and animals, as well as drying up her water. The moon cried out, and pushed him away, but it was too late. The moon was no longer the beautiful sphere she once was. The sun was angry at himself, and began to burn brighter in his rage. The moon felt afraid that now her lover was too dangerous, and could no longer dance with him in the skies. Seeing the moon run made the sun angrier, and burn brighter.
Unable to be with the sun any more, the moon felt sad and dark. Millions of years later, she gave birth to the earth, and ever since, danced around her, seeing that there was light just around the corner where, she knew, was the sun.
The sun felt horrible for what he had done. After seeing that the moon had born a daughter, he vowed to protect her, and give her warmth so she could one day grow to be as beautiful as the moon had been. He danced around the Earth ever after. He also saw that every so often he could see part of a round sphere on the other side who, he knew, was the moon.
The sun and the moon ever after danced around the Earth very slowly. Each one just willing enough to maybe get a glimpse of their once-lover, but never to meet again, for there was no longer a future for them, but only for their daughter, who on her surface, were creatures completly unaware of their first parents, and whose lives come and go as they watch from above.

Tis but the End
Practice makes Perfect that's what the parents say
And once its all perfected, we all want to stay
We had but simple beginnings in that small cafeteria
Laughing then and labeled with hysteria
Three months has passed since and it seems so long
This ending it does seem so wrong
We cheered each other one, positive thinking and such
Summing up our unlearned lines with such and such
We ate meals together and tried to keep each other alive
To pull off the best performance, to that we did strive
Finally we left the small cafeteria and moved into bigger space
To win the small skirmishes faster now, time seemed to race
Bigger stage, and it began to build itself, piece by piece
And closer to opening night our excitement did increase.
At last we are in costume, make up and wearing bigger smiles
Running across the stage, behind the curtain and down the aisles
One last week of rehearsal, then one day, then a last minute
The teachers respectively tuned their violin and flute
Stretched our voices, sang out to the empty seats
Singing once more to a made up hilarious beat
The curtain opened the actors took the stage
Last second make up, hair and beards took place
Once more we taunted the crowd, trying to save face
Slowly they filled in and we started a little late
First night we laughed, for it was only our fate
Second night it was nervous laughs because it was almost done
And we knew that we were halfway done with our fun
Third night, that's what did me in
All I could hear after the show, after the party, all and afterwards was fin.
I stood out on stage and I heard my cast mates saying their lines
Its funny how most of them did have rhymes
I walked to where I was and whispered what I would have said
My words dropping out of my mouth like lead
I couldn't believe that when the curtain was open that this was the pith of all
But somehow I was strong enough not to completely fall
I stood there looking out to the empty place
Tears streaming down my face as if they were in a race
The world came alive all around me, revolved around my quiet state
All of the characters, from Pertruchio to Kate
It was over, it was done, it would no longer be the same
In three short days we had had a little bit of fame
I stood there alone, afraid and not knowing what to do next
If you are not aware, a theatre mind is one that is complex
More tumbled down, falling there was no end
Then suddenly I felt as if I had to defend
A new friend came and realized that I was hurting inside
He came by, and I cried
I cried into his chest, and he wiped away my tears
And in that moment he helped take away my fears
It was the end of the night but not the end of the life
"Sir it is such a life, with such a wife...."
I'll keep saying their lines, keeping everyone alive
This moment of learning I once again can survive
I'm glad that he caught me before I took a hard fall
Because of my new friend concerns, right now, I'll keep him above all
Once more the curtain closed on the night
And we held in our tears with all our might
And once its all perfected, we all want to stay
We had but simple beginnings in that small cafeteria
Laughing then and labeled with hysteria
Three months has passed since and it seems so long

Love, Us Girls
Dear Parents.
Jasmine was in a relationship with a dirty homeless boy named Aladdin.
Snow White lived alone with 7 men.
Pinnochio was a liar. Robin Hood was a thief.
Tarzan walked around without clothes on. '
A stranger kissed sleeping beauty and she married him.
Cinderella lied and snuck out at night to attend a party.
You can't blame us.
We were taught to rebel since a young age.

THE STORM
They were together in the House.
Just the two of them..
It was a cold, dark, stormy night. The storm had come quickly
and each time the thunder boomed he watched her jump.
She looked across the room and admired his strong appearance...and
wished that he would take her in his arms, comfort her and protect her
from the storm.
Suddenly, with a pop, the power went out.... She screamed...
He raced to the sofa where she was cowering.
He didn't hesitate to pull her into his arms.
He knew this was a forbidden union and expected her to pull back.
He was surprised when she didn't resist but instead clung to him.
The storm raged on...
Just the two of them..

Dying
Its funny how I found a phrase that screams
It sets my soul on fire, how it burns!
It never relents, not even in dreams.
When it rears its head, how my mind churns.
I cry looking for relief, its not there.
I ask for a hug, a smile, anything
Look at me! They cry, how it is unfair
How they laugh, thier swords on my heart, do sting.
Thier cup is half-empty, mine is most full.
Everyday theirs loses another drop,
Mine, I shine, for it never will be dull,
And I laugh for everyday they do mop.
My saving line you see is the phrase 'hope,'
If you laugh, your mouth I'll wash out with soap.
In the future, my guidance you will seek.

Call me a slut,
call me a whore,
if u dont like me

COFFEE IS GOOD FOR YOU
1. It protects your heart: Moderate coffee drinkers (1 to 3 cups/day) have lower rates of stroke than noncoffee drinkers, an effect linked to coffee’s antioxidants. Coffee has more antioxidants per serving than blueberries, making it the biggest source of antioxidants in American diets. All those antioxidants may help suppress the damaging effect of inflammation on arteries. Immediately after drinking it, coffee raises your blood pressure and heart rate, but over the long term, it actually may lower blood pressure as coffee’s antioxidants activate nitric oxide, widening blood vessels.
2. It diverts diabetes: Those antioxidants (chlorogenic acid and quinides, specifically) play another role: boosting your cells’ sensitivity to insulin, which helps regulate blood sugar. In fact, people who drink 4 or more cups of coffee each day may have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes, according to some studies. Other studies have shown that caffeine can blunt the insulin-sensitivity boost, so if you do drink several cups a day, try mixing in decaf occasionally.

3. Your liver loves it: OK, so the research here is limited, but it looks like the more coffee people drink, the lower their incidence of cirrhosis and other liver diseases. One analysis of nine studies found that every 2-cup increase in daily coffee intake reduced liver cancer risk by 43 percent. Again, it’s those antioxidants—chlorogenic and caffeic acids—and caffeine that might prevent liver inflammation and inhibit cancer cells.
4. It boosts your brain power: Drinking between 1 and 5 cups a day (admittedly a big range) may help reduce risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as Parkinson’s disease, studies suggest. Those antioxidants may ward off brain cell damage and help the neurotransmitters involved in cognitive function to work better.
5. It helps your headaches: And not just the withdrawal headaches caused by skipping your daily dose of caffeine! Studies show that 200 milligrams of caffeine—about the amount in 16 ounces of brewed coffee—provides relief from headaches, including migraines. Exactly how caffeine relieves headaches isn’t clear. But scientists do know that caffeine boosts the activity of brain cells, causing surrounding blood vessels to constrict. One theory is that this constriction helps to relieve the pressure that causes the pain, says Robert Shapiro, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of neurology and director of the Headache Clinic at the University of Vermont Medical School.
Now, that’s not to say that coffee doesn’t have any pitfalls—it does. Some people are super-sensitive to caffeine and get jittery or anxious after drinking coffee; habitual coffee drinkers usually develop a tolerance to caffeine that eliminates this problem (but they then need the caffeine to be alert and ward off withdrawal headaches). Coffee can also disturb sleep, especially as people age. Cutting some of the caffeine and drinking it earlier in the day can curb this effect. Lastly, unfiltered coffee (like that made with a French press) can raise LDL cholesterol, so use a filter for heart health.
But if you like coffee and you can tolerate it well, enjoy it...without the guilt.

Undivided Attention
A grand piano wrapped in quilted pads by movers,
tied up with canvas straps - like classical music's
bithday gift to the insane -
is gently nudged without its legs
out an eight - floor window on 62nd street.
It dangles in April air fromt eh neck of the movers' crane,
Chopin-shiny black lacquer squeares
and dirty white crisscross patternes hanging liek the second-to-last
note of a concerto played on teh edge of the seat,
the edge of tears, the edge of eight stories up going over, and
I'm trying to teach mathe in the building across the street.
Who can teach when there are such lessons to be learned?
All the greatest common factors are delivered by
long-necked cranes and flatbed trucks
or come through everything, even air.
Like snow.
See, snow falls for the first time every year, and every year
my students rush to the window
as if snow were more interesting than math,
which, of course, it is.
So please.
Let me teach like a Steinway,
spinning slowly in April air,
so almost-falling, so hinderingly
dangling from the neck of the movers' crane.
So on the edge of losing everything.
Let me teach like the first snow, falling.
