You Never Know

You wouldn't know the things that you'd miss on a daily basis
Such as a simple good morning, or a simple good night
A cheery hello, a glorious goodbye or have a good day
These silly little trivial exchanges, I never knew that I'd miss...

At first we'd say good morning as we both woke up around the same time
And an occasional good night as I would be the last to go down
But by and by I wouldn't see her ever again
Then finally she moved out

You wouldn't know the things that you'd miss on a daily basis
Such as the simple act of turning on the light when she went out
Or laughing along to the same television shows
Or her love of hamburgers, or the color orange... never thought I'd miss that

We moved in and it didn't really seem to fit at first
But we got along, in class, in shows and on trivial nights
And agreed on some tings and disagreed on others
It was a breath of fresh air when it was the end and we got along better

You wouldn't know the things that you'd miss on a daily basis
Such as the simple act of waking me up when the alarm wouldn't
Or helping me out in particular subjects like math and science
Keep in mind that for the first time I slept on the ceiling  like a cat

Third basemen? Ah... no. Just a Jedi knight in disguise!
Again, I didn't know that I would get so wrapped up in yarn with her
Or fight off the llama lords, or defeat the many hurricanes
But we lived and learned and loved the best we could: And that's what I'll miss

You wouldn't know the things that you'd miss on a daily basis
Such as her snoring underneath me (boy was she loud!)
Or the silly little notes that she left for me all over the room
Or the sneaky hello when I slept in a little too late... what a hello!

You wouldn't know the things that you'd miss on a daily basis
Such as a simple good morning, or a simple good night
A cheery hello, a glorious goodbye or have a good day
These silly little trivial exchanges, I never knew that I'd miss... you.
