The Scarlet Pimpernel

Brilliant book if I may say so, written by Baroness Emmuska Orczy in 1905 this story is set in England and France around the time of the reign of terror, so named for the bloodthirsty guillotine that claimed so many lives. A rouge travels between the countries who goes under the pseudoym of The Scarlet Pimpernel, snatching innocent citizens from the famous execution style that was prominant in France in the 1700's.
The question is, who is the mysterious Scarlet Pimpernel? Is he British? Is he a French citoyon? Could he be your fearless neighbor? No one knows! Save for the Scarlet Pimpernels trusty staff, who keep the secret so well hidden that not even Chavaulin finds out his secret!

The story begins with a lavish party where Marguite is approached by the sniveling Chavaulin who is trying to capture the rascal the Scarlet Pimpernel. Using the weakness of women to his advantage, Chavaulin alerts Marguite to her brother Armands plight of perhaps becoming a victim of the guillotine soon.  He asks of ehr to reveal the where-abouts of the elusive one to barter her brothers life. With Marguite's husband was away, Marguite agrees to the terms and gathers information for the two-timing Chavaulin who promptly sets off to find the Scarlet Pimpernel. Much to his astonishment however, all he finds at the appointed place is Marguite's idiot husband, Sir Percy, asleep on the couch in the next room. The slumbering idiot gets up and leaves the party with his not-so-doting wife and life goes on for the couple. Or does it?
Chavaulin takes the information he gathers at the party and applies it to a new search of finding the Scarlet Pimpernel and is once again on the brilliant mans heels. Marguite realizes that in her haste to find information regarding her brothers savior, she not only put her brother in danger, but the savior, and other lives that the Scarlet Pimpernel was rescuing! In desperation Marguite goes after her brother with a trusted friend, Sir Andrew to try to save the day and rescue innocent French citizens. Much to her dismay the trail is laywayed with danger and unexpected trials.
Will Marguite save her brother? Will Chavaulin capture the Scarlet Pimpernel? And Who is the Scarlet Pimpernel?

Nightmare Before Christmas

Many of you may not know about Tim Burton, but he is a spectacular film director. He's not a typical director, instead of using people, he uses hand crafted characters and set designs that sprung from his brilliant mind to express how marvelous he really is, the one and only Tim Burton.
In this brilliant movie, he does it again with Nightmare Before Christmas, a spectacular film about a lost character named Skeleton Jack who is the Pumpkin King in Halloween Town. Sally is a ragdoll who wants to be free from her madman master and finds a way to run away from her demanding home. Jack walks away from the life he knows as the Pumpkin King and ends up in Christmas Town, a completly different lifestyle than what he knows in Halloween Town. He brings back his ideas to Halloween Town and declares that he can do Christmas better than the idol of Christmas Town, Sandy Clause himself. Sally finds herself in a preditament of falling in love with Jack who was stuck on the track of taking over Christmas and becoming Santa himself, just in a more scarier way. Sally decides to take Christmas into her own, uh, hands.
Always a great movie right before Christmas, or Halloween. Or right between if you dare.

Scarf Patterns for Gifts

It's that time of year again where everyone is scrambling to find gifts for everyone on their lists. And this is the time of year when gifts really tend to be commercialized. Really commercialized. To bring back some of that Holiday spirit that our generation especially lacks I propose that each person gives away ONE homemade gift. Whether it is a homemade card, painting or ashtray made out of clay, it still would be personal and meaningful.
This Christmas I crocheted a few scarves  for a few dear friends of mine, and really, I finished all three in twenty-four hours or less! I decided to post a few patterns that I test-drove this year....

These two were very simple. The blue and red one was a 12 stitch across and hangs at about down to my waist. The boy that it is going to is taller than me so I hope that its long enough! As a finishing touch (and because I wanted to cover up my mistakes on the ends...) I crocheted a red border around the blue.
The second scarf is a little different, first I made a strip of orange yarn that was 4 across and was long enough to go around my waist. (My measuring tape!) The second step was crocheting two more rows around the orange in blue to make the scarf four rows longer and four rows thicker.  The third color was green and here I crocheted around the blue twice to have the scarf 12 rows across in total and also hangs just about down to my waist. It came out much thinner than the first scarf, but if I did want to make it the same width as the first scarf I could have crocheted two more rows around the green.
The third scarf was a different pattern that I tried for the first time, ever. The pattern was 5 rows of off-white and two rows of green, repeatedly. I crocheted more rows onto the end of the scarf until it came down to about my waist then added a border of green that matched the green in the scarf. '

If any one is interested and likes these ideas, you are quite welcome to use them, however I do offer the chance to help out the Special Olympics this season. Each year they ask volunteers to crochet or knit a scarf for the volunteers that help out at the Special Olympics each year. These volunteers give their time and effort to be at the different locations for the Olympics, supporting friends, families and teammates. They don't ask for much, and they don't receive much in return.  If you have the time I ask that you look up the pattern for this years Special Olympic USA Scarf Project. The instructions can be found on the Internet, as well more patterns that you can use. This is what I ask for Christmas, Support for the Special Olympics.

Merry Christmas to you, our troops, our families and to our friends!

Merry Merry

I will be making a conscious effort to wish everyone
A Merry Christmas this year ...
My way of saying that I am celebrating
The birth Of Jesus Christ.
So I am asking my online buddies,
If you agree with me,
To please do the same.
And if you'll pass this on to
Your online buddies, and so on...
Maybe we can prevent one more
American tradition from being lost in the sea of
"Political Correctness".

Merry Christmas to one and all.♥

Pedro & Rosita

It's a romantic full moon, when Pedro said, "Hey, mamacita, let's do Weeweechu."

Oh no, not now, let's look at the moon!" said Rosita.

Oh, c'mon baby, let's you and I do Weeweechu. I love you and it's the perfect time," Pedro begged.

"But I wanna just hold your hand and watch the moon." replied Rosita.

Please, corazoncito, just once, do Weeweechu with me."

Rosita looked at Pedro and said, "OK, one time, we'll do Weeweechu."

Pedro grabbed his guitar and they both sang.....

"Weeweechu a Merry Christmas,
Weeweechu a Merry Christmas,
Weeweechu a Merry Christmas,
 and a Happy New Year."
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

Spring-o'-the-Moment

Tonight I was hoodwinked into doing a fundraiser for a friend, and what she didn't know was I was in the middle of my laundry! As fast as I could I pulled this do-dad out of the closet and out the door I went. I didn't realize how wonderful an outfit this was until I had actually returned home and looked in the mirror. (I might add, I had a bad hair day before I put the outfit on...)
It started off with the heels (it's a fundraiser, I had to look important) then the blue pants (it was a bit cold) and I was stuck with the black and white tank top with big sparkly clear stones sewn into the top.  Well, as it was going to be cold out I had to bundle up somehow... aha! Fashionable sweater to the rescue! I put the sweater over the ensamble and walked out the door.
Can you winterize a few tank tops of your own? No one will ever be able to tell. ☻

Speakers Up!

As the story goes, the guy that owns this house lives north of Cincinnati , Ohio ..  Police were constantly being called for traffic jams and accidents in the neighborhood so they asked him to shut it down during certain hours.  Instead he started charging by car load
to pay off duty police to be there...

The guy is supposedly a real computer GEEK, and a great decorator!

I hope you enjoy this! Merry Christmas!

Dear Santa....

Dear Santa,

I don't want much for Christmas, I just want the person reading this to be happy. Friends are the fruit cake of life --- some nutty, some soaked in alcohol, some sweet but mix them together and they're my
friends. At Christmas you always hear people talking about what they want & bought. This is what I want: I want people who are sick with no cure, to be cured. I want children with no families to be adopted. I want people to never have to worry about food, shelter & heat. I want peace on earth, goodwill and love for everyone!

Thank you Santa,

Sincerley, Me.

Now, let's see how many people forward this.

Apples to Apples

I had a mother come up to me once when I was babysitting her dear child, whom I will name "Godzilla" after his favorite character, Godzilla, and mentioned to me who she wished she was 'smaller', and how she ate for two when she was pregnant.  That's what you're supposed to do right? (I wouldn't know!) After the funny stories I came back the next day and for a snack for my little Godzilla I prepared apples and peanut butter. Want to know the funny part? Godzilla loved it! He asked for more! His mother was just as surprised, she didn't think he would actually like the combination, which was a healthy alternative to the chicken nuggets that he really liked to eat. (I did too, they were in dinosaur shapes! Yum!) A few weeks after I had left the mother mentioned to me that he kept asking for the apples and peanut butter! I was shocked, I didn't realize that he would have liked it that much! And so I shall pass this on to you, since it was such a great success in Godzilla's home!

You need:

1 apple
1 knife
1 jar of peanut butter
extra: Raisins, peanuts, Cinnamon, toothpicks

1. Cut your apple into slices, as big as you want. I particularly like my apples cut in small quarters, big enough to hold and small enough to fit in your mouth without too much trouble.
2. Spread peanut butter onto the apple slice and add on the raisins, peanuts or sprinkle on cinnamon. Instead of adding peanut butter to the apples you can also just add cinnamon and you get a yummy flavor altogether! P.S. in this step is where you get to experiment!
3. Stab a toothpick through the apple slice and serve!

Here are some ideas,

Just apples & peanut butter....
Apples and cinnamon on a piece of bread with peanut butter and....
Apples and cinnamon!

I hope you enjoy as much as Godzilla did!

Sucker Punch

This as a good movie when considering it had all the elements of a 'manly movie.' Have you seen those Dr. Pepper commericials when the guy says that certain things are for men and not for women? Well, this is for you boys! It starts off a little slow, when our girl right up front here 'Baby' is accused of a crime and sent to an asylum.  The asylum turns out to be not as safe as it should be and 'Baby' finds herself taking dance classes (horrors!), cleaning floors and having to deal with the advancing chubby cook. She creates a world that she can escape to and is able to survive the first day. Four other girls join in on her quest to be free from the asylum and bring hell to anyone who tries to stop them.
What is a nice change from this movie to a few other is the emphasis on violence, danger and not so much as sexuality that plays into the scenes.  The movie goes fast, and the only slow parts come when information needs to be given. I can't give you the ending, but you most definetly will not expect it. Also, Vanessa Hudgens in the movie, this is a far cry from her last famous role as a high school glee singer in High School Musical with her ex-boyfriend Zach Efron. Personally, I would pick this movie over that one any day.

The Flu: An Original Piece

It all started with Anna's cousin Andrew
Who announced to the world that he had the flu!
His doctors name was Dr. Mike
Who was sweet Tori, I know you'll like
Her brother Tom, he caught it from her
And passed it on to thier mom Annie
And her brother Dannie
passed it to his co worker Jesse
(whose desk I must say is always messy)
And on to his wife Chana again it did pass
to thier daughter Dana, who is a cute lass
In her daycare she passed it on again
To her friends Joe Ian and Zak, oh cute little men
They all had sisters you see
And one was the cheerleader named Betty
She gave it to her squad and the football team to boot
And Charles got the worst of it, when he borrowed her flute
Avery, his niece who is but five years old
Fortunately only got the common cold.
But her twin brother Jordan
(who could never commit a sin)
Caught it head on and passed it to Caitlin
Who was his buddy in the first grade
The teacher Mr. Chris who at night would get laid
With his fiancée Nicole gave it to her
(I know you ask me, are you sure?)
She gave it to her other boy Adrian
Who was still dating Daren.
His mother Emily took care of his flu
And gave it to the senior home when it was through.
The senior home came out alright
At least that’s what Faye thought when she left for the night.
Mr. Josh had died because of complications of the heart
But Nurse Ashley didn’t see it until she checked the chart
Kristine was home again because she was laid off,
She was okay until her son Nick let out a huge cough
The both were sick and her neighbor Amber helped out
You know she caught it without a doubt.
Eric the pilot flew the skies
When they said he had it he said ‘that’s lies!’
The rest of the crew and the passengers got it too
And that is the story of the flu.

Before Class Dash

As it is getting sort of kind of weirdly enough WARM out, I didn't really want to wear my jeans so I pulled this together. It's nice because the sleeves keep me warm, the leggings keep me cool and the whole outfit just looks kind of well, warm. I have the belt keeping it all together, black leggings and a black belt, the white (awesome new) shoes match the hair pin and well, it is very comfortable to run around all day with. Especially when one is running from work on one side of the campus to class on the other.... Stay warm! ♠

Two Shakes of a Lambs Tail

Everyone may have heard this quote at one time or another, in one form or another and it still doesn't lose its, cute charm. I only say cute because lambs are ADORABLE. Okay, what were we discussing? Right, two shakes of a lambs tale.

Look how cute it is! It's like its saying "Get on with it lady!" Oh, wait okay. Harrumph. I'm not 100% positive about the original date that the phrase came to be, but it is adorable all the same.

Oh don't tell me that I'm putting you to sleep, it's no fun to talk to people like that! so two shakes of a lambs tale means to move quickly, or something moves quickly. Such as a shake of a lambs tail.

... or sheep ducky. Which ever one you prefer! I actually own this one, but unfortunately, the poor things tail is frozen in plastic wool! To get back to the topic, two shakes of a lambs tail can certainly mean to be be very quick about it. Unless of course if the lamb only shakes his tail once, but does that mean that the lamb only twitched? I'm a little confused... Oh look! Another lamb!

... or two. Te he. Look how cute they are! He he he he! Or what if two lambs shake their tails at the same time? Does this mean that you have to be doubly fast? Like, you have to move on the double? How curious. Or what if there is three lambs? then you have to move really, really fast? Dear, I'm getting ahead of myself.

I think I'll stick to the definition of the lamb moving its tail from one side to the other twice, and you need to move as fast as that tail can move. Unless if course its as fast lightning, but that is super fast, and sounds like another cliche post... hmm?

I will try to keep up to date with the blog posts, and try my best to it as quick as two shakes of a lambs tail, as I have seen lambs before (they are more adorable than they are in these pictures!) and their tails do move very fast! Keep moving quickly!

Stove Top Dinner

Anyone hungry? Here's an interesting dinner than someone like me can do! (If I can do it then you can too!) Oh and you should give my Mom some credit too, she kinda made me make it by giving me the spatula and telling me to stir!

What you need for Vegetable Chow Mien is:

1 clover                                            1t Ginger
1 carrot (cut in strips)                        1 can water chestnuts
1c. broccoli                                        2c. mushrooms
4c. spaghetti

1) Coat the frying pan with Pam
2) Saute the pan with ginger and garlic. Add the water chestnuts (if you use them) and the broccoli. Add cooking oil to keep the veggies wet and cook able. [Mom's tip]
Cook the water chestnuts (if you have them) and the broccoli, set aside in a separate bowl.
3) Add in the mushrooms (with cooking oil), stir fry until cooked thoroughly ((Look for the mushrooms to be darker than the brown they were before going into the pan, they will also curl slightly))
4) Cook the spaghetti (or whatever you use) in a separate pan on the stove as they are usually cooked, then add the spaghetti in the same pan as the mushrooms and the broccoli, stir all together, put top on the pan and mix again when serving. Or serve separately if you're one of those people who don't like to mix their food.

Enjoy! (And thank my Mother too when you get the chance for this idea!)

Sound Off [14]

"You have enemies? Good, that means you've stood up for something."

I can say the various times I've stood up for myself, and either faced my opponent strongly to avoid another confrontation, or faced my opponent and the situation grew worse. Sometimes, you really can't do anything about the situation and you need to let it simmer out with the times.

Once an enemy was created, and I tried to form a friendship, at least one where we could cordially meet one another and exchange the time. Did not quite work out the way I had planned. I did try, and it was amusing to see her avoid confrontation with me, I was more saddened that she could not hear me say to her face how much of a person I thought she was, and will turn into. Someday she'll see what I thought of her. All very nice things mind you, but sometimes you have to let them simmer and wait for the outcome later on.

Another time, I was confronted with another girl whom never truly appreciated what others did and looked at herself as being perfect. I made it clear that I did not like her remarks, and she could keep them to herself. However the bullying continued, and I counted down the days for the school year to end. When she was gone, I breathed easier, even though there were bigger fish to fry, well, I was the smaller fish to fry but still. I had tried, and made an enemy out of someone that really wasn't worth the time.

Have I tried standing up for myself? Yes. Has it gotten me anywhere? Yes. Moving on from girl bullies, lets look at boy bullies. Again, have I tried standing up for myself? Yes. Has it gotten me anywhere? Yes. Have those boys even looked at me again? Only a few, and I am grateful for those few. The others, if you think about it, they weren't worth it if they couldn't respect me. I'm grateful for the men that respect my answers and allow me to be me, and I do not have respect for the boys who do not respect women.

This is considering relationships, looking into the work place, I have created a few unwanted enemies. For instance, I hit a co-workers car. Completely by accident. Paid the bill, and both of us when on our way. Sort of, trying to get my old job back as you read this. However, I faced the bill and he has more respect for me seeing how I accepted the payment. When I stood up for myself in another work environment, it didn't go as well, I was told to go home without the chance to explain myself. I waited until I had the moment to do so and after that I didn't make any enemies, but I didn't make any more friends. It's work though, and in the environment that I was in at the time, there were no 'friendships', there were work-relationships, but the way that the corporation was going, there was no time to begin or improve work relationships. The job left me and it has turned into another learned experience.

I hope you can understand that you can stand up for yourself, and you can be the better person when you do. You may make enemies, but when you do, you also create friends who may not make themselves visible, but they are there all the same. I have friends, I have enemies, I have some people who would give me the time but that is all they would offer. I've stood up for myself, and found myself in a more difficult situation than anticipated, but I've learned. Have you found yourself in one of these situations? How have you solved the problem? I hope you are in a better place for showing that you can stand up for yourself, no matter the situation.

Apparant Suicide

The next case that I had occurred a few before the terrible accident. I work as an EMT and as Nodnol is a small town, we as the citizens hold two jobs to cover the entire town.  Often, people like me end up working double shifts. Sometimes back to back. Being a small town cases usually would be unrelated and small and far in between. The cases that continued to appear on my desk began to tell a different story. They were unrelated in the beginning, but then they began to link together.
The call came in early in the morning, a suicide in the upper link apartments, a white male, late 30's, gunshot wound to the head. Suicide was the deemed report. However, one smart person in the room said: "Wheres the gun?" This shot the whole case right open and that is why it's on my desk.
So the stats of the case included: A room that was locked from the inside, suicide shot to the head while sitting in a chair, gunshot residue on the right hand (man was a right-hand man) and a missing gun. This was the interesting part, a missing gun.  How can someone kill themselves without a gun? The next thought we had was his wife, but his wife was out of town on business, or so we thought. Turned out the trip was bogus and she had only formed the trip so she could run of to Vegas with, get this... her sister. Fortunately the video cameras were able to back up her story, with her sister next to her the whole time. Story backed up. First lead died, as well as the dear beloved wife of the man had fainted when she heard that her husband had died, due to a 'gun shot to the head'.  We could have said suicide, but we needed a gun to say that he did committed suicide.  I ruled her off of the suspect list when I saw her reaction to her husbands death, she denied it, called me a liar, tried to call him herself and when the phone in the evidence bag started to ring did she finally believe me. The poor dear. She came in once a week after that, asking about her husbands killer, she wanted to know and she looked as if with every moment that went by without her husbands killer surfacing she died. The poor thing.
This was the first case, but I hadn't realized how close it was to the case on the woman nicknamed 'Angel' but the police crew of Nodnol. In the deconstruction of the car that killed 'Angels' husband there was a gun discovered, an exact match to the bullet that killed the man in the apartment. We had a few questions for 'Angel' when she woke up, if she ever woke up from the coma that she was currently obsorbed in.

Today's Class: Sparkles!

This one certainly can put you on the conservative side, with the long pants and the double tank top, and might I add the added sparkle that can help with any outfit? Just enough sparkle to make your day shine! All of these have been used before, but as the winter months are soon to be here, its time to do a bit covering up of the arms and legs, no more frilly fun dresses! Down to the drab and dreary! Bah. There are sparkles on my tank and sparkles in my shoes! With this kind of fun and flair, how can you lose?

Honestly, let me know what you think! ☺

Not all Thieves are Stupid

Important information to keep in mind.

Not all thieves are stupid.

This gives us something to think about with all our new electronic technology.

GPS
A couple of weeks ago a friend told me that someone she knew had their car broken into while they were at a football game. Their car was parked on the green which was adjacent to the football stadium and specially allotted to football fans. Things stolen from the car included a garage door remote control, some money and a GPS which had been prominently mounted on the dashboard.

When the victims got home, they found that their house had been ransacked and just about everything worth anything had been stolen. The thieves had used the GPS to guide them to the house. They then used the garage remote control to open the garage door and gain entry to the house. The thieves knew the owners were at the football game, they knew what time the game was scheduled to finish and so they
knew how much time they had to clean out the house. It would appear that they had brought a truck to empty the house of its contents.

Something to consider if you have a GPS - don't put your home address in it.. Put a nearby address (like a store or gas station) so you can still find your way home if you need to, but no one else would know where you live if your GPS were stolen.

MOBILE PHONES

I never thought of this.......

This lady has now changed her habit of how she lists her names on her mobile phone after her handbag was stolen. Her handbag, which contained her cell phone, credit card, wallet... Etc...was stolen.

20 minutes later when she called her hubby, from a pay phone telling him what had happened, hubby says 'I received your text asking about our Pin number and I've replied a little while ago.' When they rushed down to the bank, the bank staff told them all the money was already withdrawn. The thief had actually used the stolen cell phone to text 'hubby' in the contact list and got hold of the pin number. Within 20 minutes he had withdrawn all the money from their bank
account.

Moral of the lesson:
Do not disclose the relationship between you and the people in your contact list.

Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Hubby, Sweetheart, Dad, Mom, etc....

And very importantly, when sensitive info is being asked
through texts, CONFIRM by calling back

Also, when you're being texted by friends or family to meet them somewhere, be sure to call back to confirm that the message came from
them. If you don't reach them, be very careful about going places to meet 'family and friends' who text you..

*PLEASE PASS THIS ON
* I never thought about the above!
As of now, I no longer have 'home' listed on my cell phone.

Even if this does not pertain to you....Pass it on to your family & friends

Changeling

As you may be aware, I am interested in the subject of changeling children. If you are not aware, please see the short story "Lilly" found on the bottom of the blog, thanks!
When I first heard of Changeling it was when it was still in theatres. As I am a broke college student, I didn't watch it and waited for it to come out on DVD. Finally it arrived and I was able to watch it! And I was not dissapointed with the full story.
Changeling takes place in the late 1920's in Los Angeles, a city full of corruption, secret murders and unsolved kidnappings. Angelina Jolie stars as a mother who falls victim to a kidnapping and a 'glossing over' 'he's probably only a runaway kid' treatment from the L.A. Police Department. One day the police knock on her door and declare they had found her son, however, it is not her son. In a period where women were looked down up and were placed into mental institutions with ease, Jolie has her troubles when she tries to fight with the police in getting her real son back.
Jolie never succumbs to the rough treatment the L.A.P.D. puts her through, instead continues to fight until the real culprit is caught and handled by a higher power.
I truly enjoyed this story, and I would like to watch it again, but the most interesting aspect about the movie was, the movie was based off of a true story. This captured my attention, and it was unbelievable to think that these happenings did occur in Los Angeles. This is not a comedy, not a girls night in movie, and certainly not a first date movie. This is a thriller that will capture you from the moment it begins to the moment the vandels are dealt with. Certainly on my 'will buy in the future list' for myself.

Someday - Rob Thomas

You can go, you can start all over again
You could try to find a way to make another day go by
You can hide, hold all your feelings inside
You could try to carry on when all you wanna do is cry

And maybe someday we'll figure all this out
Try to put an end to all our doubt
And try to find a way to make things better now that
Maybe someday we'll live our lives out loud
We'll be better off somehow, someday

Now we wait and try to find another mistake
If you throw it all away then maybe you could change your mind
You can run, oh, and when everything is over and done
You could shine a little light on everything around you
Man, it's good to be someone

And maybe someday we'll figure all this out
Try to put an end to all our doubt
Try to find a way to make things better now that
Maybe someday we'll live our lives out loud
We'll be better off somehow, someday

And I don't wanna wait, I just wanna know
I just wanna hear you tell me so
Give it to me straight, tell it to me slow

'Cause maybe someday we'll figure all this out
We'll put an end to all our doubt
Try to find a way to just feel better now that
Maybe someday we'll live our lives out loud
We'll be better off somehow, someday

'Cause sometimes we don't really notice
Just how good it can get
So maybe we should start all over
Start all over again

'Cause sometimes we don't really notice
Just how good it can get
So maybe we should start all over
Start all over again

Thinking of J tonight...

Sound Off [13]

"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind, don't matter and those who matter, don't mind."-Dr.Seuss

I have always loved this quote, from hearing it as a child when reading the Dr. Seuss books to watching a few friends preform the lyrics on stage when Suessical was in town. It carries a powerful meaning to young children, letting them know that it is okay to be themselves. If the boys want to wear a pink shirt and the girls want to play trucks its okay! Those who tell the girls to play with the dolls because "trucks are for boys" are not listening to the beautiful quote. These girls are being who they are! They boys are too! The people who are forming their children to be specifically gender roled, or having them 'fit' into the 'norms' are not helping their children, or anyone for that matter. These people really mind therefore, they truly don't matter.

In the world there should be more members who encourage originality and children who speak their mind. We really don't know what they are thinking, feeling or wanting to do everyday of their lives. The creative people fix the world, and they do it even if they don't have permission. They just do it anyways and the world is a better place for it.

In my classroom I want students who wear different outfits, stripes on spots, yellow on orange and everything in between. This will tell me that my students are being the creative people who they are, and they will know that I care and matter in their lives because I will encourage them being this way. One day I just might let the students dress up as their favorite professions! I hope to get a boy ballerina and a girl carpenter!

I don't want to be one those teachers/parents/peers that mind about how others act. I don't want to be someone that doesn't matter. I want to be someone who doesn't mind, and matters in someones life.

Don't you think this is the better way to go too?

Roller Skating

Last time I skated
I wore tiny shoes that could only fit me
And the floor was covered in carpet
With a 1980's pattern that was geometrically square
Farther away lay the rink which was oval with lights aglow
   Thousands of light above
           a solid oak floor below
The beginners were on the outside track
Hugging the wide edge, encouraged by parents
Becoming frightened when there was nothing more
Than a thin edge near the DJ
The more experienced ruled the inside track
    With their tricks and twirls
            Cheers and dances
In a glassed window box with the lights down low
Hid the DJ with his many games and music
He held the skaters at his mercy
As he played all the best themed songs
When we were tired, bruised, or thirst
Off the rink we would crawl
To play the games, win the prizes, have a soothing drink
We could skate for minutes, hours, days
Never having to breathe, only to laugh, to have fun
To skate the world and its cares away
Life lessons were learned on the roller rink
      You can start off scared
Holding the wall, hugging onto its comfort
But at some point the wall will run out
Skate further on and the wall and its support will again be there
With the loss of the wall, its support soon loses its value
And the once needed support becomes obsolete
The wall is replaced by helping hands
That pushed you with the crowd
Guided your unsure steps around the rink
But once in a while the hands left
                Leaving you small and vulnerable
When an obstacle made it impossible to hold on any longer
Little by little the hands were needed no more
They did not disappear forever, only hovered
Waiting for a time they may be needed again
Skating made you a free person
Let you fly across endless time
               Like an independent soul
In life we all have humble beginnings
Where we grip the wall in fear
Hold the hand, afraid of letting go
                       Afraid of falling
The rink was not only a place of laughter and good times

Here we learned life lessons
And here I learned to not be afraid of falling

Memory Room

It's hard to forget some one like him
When various memories live forever
On the walls, in pictures, in poems
In fading memories, on the chairs, in the room

Unwanted photographs still litter the desktop
Cropping up under the fuzzy dogs and cute mice
It's terrible really, cause it's getting harder to forget
You, Still exist, in the phone, in the room

It's not kind of hard for someone to forget you
Even though time has long enough gone by
And still so many memories still exist all around
All around, in my mind, in my room.

Teaching [4]

Dang girl!

You know how much I love shopping in my own closet, but today I couldn't resist! You know when you have those really bad weeks when you lose your job, end up in the nurse ward at school and have too many allergies that you end up having a bloody nose in class and you just have to go shopping? Well... that's what I did. And look what I found! [Well, and a few girl friends helped too, remember kids, never shop alone!]
Today, we found these adorable pumps that are white with a nice bow on the front and put me two inches higher off of the ground, which is a doable height I will admit.  They were definitely in my price range, only $20! Can you get any better than that?
When we got back I looked in my closet and found this outfit just staring us in the face. Literally hanging in the closet together. It consisted of the lovely skirt I am so fond of, a white '50s era belt, and a spotted see through shirt! The shirt was 'fixed' by placing an off white shirt underneath to make it more formal. And with a dash of jewelry it came out fantastic!

Look for the wonderful bargains in your closet's girls, and your price range stores too! ♥

Lucky Dog....

Anyone who has pets will really like this. You'll like it even if you don't and you may even decide you need one!

Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named Lucky. Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit they would warn their friends to not leave their luggage open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy. Inevitably, someone would forget and something would come up missing.

Mary or Jim would go to Lucky's toy box in the basement and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky's other favorite toys. Lucky always stashed his finds in his toy box and he was very particular that his toys stay in the box..

It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her she was going to die of this disease....in fact; she was just sure it was fatal.

She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders. The night before she was to go to the hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A thought struck her...what would happen to Lucky? Although the three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary's dog through and through. If I die, Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won't understand that I didn't want to leave him! The thought made her sadder than thinking of her own death.

The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had anticipated and Mary was hospitalized for over two weeks. Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully, but the little dog just drooped, whining and miserable.

Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn't even make it up the steps to her bedroom. Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap..

Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called. It made Mary sad but sleep soon over came her and she dozed.

When Mary woke for a second she couldn't understand what was wrong. She couldn't move her head and her body felt heavy and hot. But panic soon gave way to laughter when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned! While she had slept, the sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement bringing his beloved mistress all his favorite things in life.

He had covered her with his love.

Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began living again, walking further and further together every day. It's been 12 years now and Mary is still cancer-free. Lucky, he still steals treasures and stashes them in his toy box but Mary remains his greatest treasure..

Remember......live every day to the fullest. Each minute is a blessing from God. And never forget....the people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care for us.

Live simply.. Love seriously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

A small request

All you are asked to do is keep this circulating, even if it is only to one more person, in memory of anyone you know that has been struck down by cancer or is still fighting their battle.

Blonde Horse Rider

A blonde decides to try horseback riding ... even though she
has had no lessons ... nor prior experience. She mounts the
horse unassisted ... and the horse immediately springs into
motion. It gallops along at a steady and rhythmic pace ....
but the blonde begins to slide from the saddle.

In terror ... she grabs for the horse's mane ... but cannot
seem to get a firm grip. She tries to throw her arms around
the horse's neck ... but she slides down the horse's side
anyway. The horse gallops along ... seemingly impervious to
            its slipping rider.

Finally ... giving up her frail grip ... the blonde attempts
to leap away from the horse and throw herself to safety.
Unfortunately ... her foot has become entangled in the
stirrup ... she is now at the mercy of the horse's pounding
hooves as her head is struck against the ground over and over.

*As her head is battered against the ground ... she is mere
moments away from unconsciousness when to her great fortune
... Frank ... the Walmart greeter ... sees her dilemma and
            unplugs the horse*.

And you thought all they did was say Hello.
