He asked me where I would go
Quite simply after I died
"Where would you go? What would you see?"
I told him I wouldn't stay in one place,
I wouldn't stare into just one face.
I would travel the world, meet the people
Splash in every ocean,
Scream from every mountain,
Listen to the songs of the birds,
Dance on the wings of the wind.
He liked my style!
"Do it big"
And as a last compliment he "smiled".
I smiled back on the other side of my computer.
I have many years before I reach that stage
Of the old game that my cousins used to play.
"Miss Susie" was the name of the game,
Miss Susie had a very silly name.
She went from being a baby to a small child,
growing from toddler to teenager in such a short while.
Then from adult momma to grandmama then dead to ghost,
That was not a stage that I understood the most.
As a ghost you see you can't spread the good news,
You can't teach, you can't have friends, you can't be yourself.
I'd rather be alive and writing this to you,
Then floating around, every day closer to an eternal death.
