Dying on the Horse

Its funny what you think about
after the fight has been fought
You think about the family the home
and how all your dreams came true
What you planned to do, what you hoped to do
and how every bit of everything would work out
You start thinking about timelines
and how it all fit together
Where you came from, how you got here
and who you brought along on the way
You start wondering where it all began
and wonder again how it'll all end
When you breathe in the fresh air you want another
and start thinking about different smells
When you first remember the first kiss, the first time
and you wish for one more day
After all the fighting is over you look down
and realize that life isn't a game
You can't play the cards right or you'll cause trouble
and trouble is what brought you here
When your world begins to grow dim you look around
and wish that you had a little bit more time
You wish that you could ride the horse again
and feel the rush of the wind in your hair, taste the freedom
On your last dying breath, at your one last glimpse of life you remember
          to let go
